The Freedom of Information Act has been said to be the right that enables members of the Nigerian public to have access to information held by government or public institutions and has now been recognized as a fundamental human right to which Nigerians are entitled to. The public is entitled to authoritative and authentic information either in printed or electronic formats under the possession of the government or public institutions. The study was an attempt to demystify what constitutes access to information and exemptions as portrayed in the Act, for easy application by the users and information handlers. The paper also made an explanatory note as a guide for understanding of the Act.
